The SV Sienna Project

SV Sienna is a long-term sailing project documenting the complete build of a Setka A sailboat
and the preparation for the Setka Atlantic Challenge 2029.

The goal is a well prepared boat and skipper, with the full journey documented from the first build decisions through sea trials and offshore miles.

The Boat

The boat for this project is a Setka A,
a small ocean-capable sailboat designed by Janusz Maderski

At just five metres in length, the Setka A is designed to be built efficiently while still being capable of serious offshore sailing. The design prioritises simplicity, strength, and practicality, making it well suited for a self-build project and for long-distance solo sailing.

More information about the Setka A design can be found on the designer’s website:

The Challenge

The long-term goal of the project is to take part in the Setka Atlantic Challenge 2029.

The challenge is a transatlantic race sailed single-handed in boats of the Setka class, with participants building and preparing their own boats. Beyond the race itself, the project is about careful preparation, testing the boat thoroughly, and building experience before attempting an Atlantic crossing.
